Rajpal Yadav exposes the truth! Why ‘Baby John’ failed and how Varun Dhawan handled the flop

Foraying into mass action with Baby John, Varun Dhawan’s recent action film did not have the box office impact that he had expected. After much hype, the film couldn’t even recover its cost due to a very poor performance at the domestic box office, garnering less than ₹50 crore against the budget of over ₹180 crore. In this scenario, Varun has been tight-lipped about the film, but his co-star Rajpal Yadav has now come out and talked about the situation.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal reflected on Baby John, a “well-made film in all respects.” However, he blamed the failure of the film as it was the remake of Vijay’s film Theri, which was done in Tamil. According to him, if the film hadn’t been a remake, it could have been the best film from his 25 years of working in the cinema. But the fact that the audience had already seen Theri lessened the impact of the remake. “Since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it, and because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film,” Rajpal noted.

Despite the poor performance, Rajpal appreciated Varun’s efforts, saying that the actor is “such a sweet boy” who is “very hardworking” and always tries to do something different with his roles. According to Rajpal, Varun’s willingness to take risks in his career should be appreciated, as stepping out of his comfort zone and attempting mass action was no small feat.

While Baby John received mixed reviews from critics, Rajpal himself received some positive feedback, especially for his performance in an action sequence. He played Constable Ram Sevak, a deputy to Varun’s character, DCP Satya Verma, marking a notable moment in his career as he tried action for the first time.

Ultimately, Baby John’s failure at the box office has been a setback for Varun, but Rajpal’s comments underscore the actor’s continuous commitment to experimenting with different genres and pushing his limits.
