The Underwhelming Showdown: Emergency VS Azaad Box office Collection – Who won, Who lost?

This would be the second big box-office war of 2025, Emergency versus Azaad, but it sadly disappoints. The reason being, no arrival of the public to the cinema for either movie, while Emergency does just a little better in the unimpressive race than Azaad, did not bring much for either film from audiences.

Kangana Ranaut’s political drama, Emergency, was somehow able to hold on to a slight lead over its rival. The film opened with ₹2.25 crore and gained business over the weekend, with day 2 and day 3 bringing in ₹3 crore and ₹3.5 crore, respectively. Though a series of unfortunate events led to a downturn in the weekdays, it finally got just ₹90 lakh on its seventh day. After a week, Emergency has grossed ₹13.15 crore in local box-office sales.

Though it gets worse thrice for Azaad, Abhishek Kapoor’s historical melodrama featuring Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani. It recorded a terribly slow opening of ₹1.5 crore and kept sinking through the week. By its seventh day, the film had earned just ₹5 lakh, can you believe it? For that big a film? The total stood at ₹6.2 crore, unfathomable stabbings, more so from the marketing role.

This has been underwhelming for both, as audience interest was very low, accompanied by the mixed bag reviews, and, worst of all, marketing push for both distractions was lame. Emergency, though, gets more on Kangana Ranaut’s star power along with political interest, somehow did not succeed in trapping economic returns from its fairways, while Azaad, despite having substantive history context, lacked the spark and racy interest owing to the way the story was narrated at a dull pace.
