Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor’s Loveyapa faces Box Office setback! Day 1 collections disappoint

Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa has hit theaters today, February 7, 2025. The romantic comedy stars newcomers Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor. The film is a modern tale of a couple maneuvering through the ‘siyapa’ of a relationship. Despite the hype surrounding the release, Loveyapa hasn’t exactly been off to a flying start in the box office, in contrast with its arch competitor, Badass Ravi Kumar.

Box Office Performance
Co-produced by Aamir Khan, Boney Kapoor, and others, Loveyapa opens to a lukewarm response. The film’s opening day collections are expected to range between Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.25 crore. To sustain in the competitive market, the film will need strong word-of-mouth and support from younger audiences. If it manages to secure good walk-in bookings on its first day, it may improve its performance, though it is unlikely to be a blockbuster opener.

Remake Factor and Audience Reception
Loveyapa is the Hindi remake of the Tamil romantic film Love Today (2022), but it has failed to create much buzz. The pre-sales figures were not encouraging, with only 5,000 tickets sold across major national chains. The remake factor might be a setback, as recent adaptations like Deva (a remake of Mumbai Police) failed to impress audiences. Bollywood cinegoers seem to prefer fresh content over remakes, which adds another challenge for Loveyapa.

Lead Actors and Their Bollywood Debut
Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor will both be debuting in theaters with Loveyapa. Junaid, who is Aamir Khan’s son and Reena Dutta’s child, started acting in Maharaj in 2024. Khushi, daughter of Boney Kapoor and the late Sridevi, has acted in The Archies in 2023.

While the romantic comedy has lost its earlier charm in Bollywood, Loveyapa claims to revive that. Still, with the current reception of the film, time will tell whether it can sustain well at the box office and win over audiences.
