Vicky Kaushal’s Biggest opener yet! Chhaava creates history with Rs 31 crore on Day 1

Vicky Kaushal’s long-awaited historical drama, Chhaava, finally released in theatres on Friday, February 14, and has swept the box office off its feet. As per Sacnilk reports, the film raked in a massive Rs 31 crore (nett) on the opening day, which is Kaushal’s biggest opener so far.

The film achieved a stunning overall attendance of 35.17 per cent in Hindi. The morning shows garnered a 30.51 per cent attendance, which rose to 34.50 per cent in the afternoon and reached a high of 40.51 per cent in the evening.

Breaking Previous Records
With its record first-day collections, Chhaava has beaten Kaushal’s all-time highest opener, Uri: The Surgical Strike, which had earned Rs 8.20 crore on its opening day. Moreover, Chhaava has become the largest opener of 2025 to date, beating Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, which earned Rs 15.30 crore on its opening day.

Historical Drama with a Bigger-than-Life Cast
Laxman Utekar directs and Dinesh Vijan produces under Maddock Films’ banner the intense historical drama Chhaava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the fearless son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Vicky Kaushal plays the title character, and his bravery and legacy come alive. Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta play supporting roles.

Critical Reception and OTT Release
Chhaava received good word-of-mouth among critics and the audience. News18 Showsha gave it 3.5 stars, acknowledging the storytelling of the film as well as the accuracy of history depicted. The critic praised the way the movie reflects the path of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and how his memory needs to be acknowledged.

Though the film is still on the big screen, reports say that Chhaava will have its world premiere on Netflix once the theatrical run has ended. Though a formal announcement from the creators is pending, the film can be expected to arrive on the streaming platform within 45–60 days of release.

With its record-breaking opening, Chhaava will dominate the box office in the days ahead.
