Village of Heroes! Maharashtra’s heartwarming gesture to honour Irrfan Khan’s legacy will move you

Actor Irrfan Khan continues to occupy the hearts of movie fans, encouraged by his films and kindness. Recently, in honor of the legendary actor, a village in Maharashtra decided to pay tribute to him by officially titling their locality ‘Hero Chi Wadi’ (Hero’s Mohalla). This heartfelt gesture goes on to reflect the love and appreciation the villagers have for Irrfan Khan.

A village’s love for Irrfan Khan
Residents of Igatpuri in the Nashik district were great fans of Irrfan Khan and would go to lengths of traveling almost 30 kilometers away just to watch his films in theatres. Now to commemorate their beloved actor, the villagers have formally called the different locality next to the old Tringalwadi fort ‘Hero Chi Wadi’ from now on. It was previously known as ‘Patriarchal Wada.’ This touching act, which was highlighted by The Culture Gully (@theculturegully) on Instagram, has already made waves.

Irrfan Khan did much for the village
Irrfan indeed had a close association with Igatpuri, where he possessed a farmhouse for almost 15 years. During those years, he contributed somehow towards the welfare of villagers. He got them an ambulance, clothes like raingear and sweaters for children in inclement weather, helped construct schools, and donated gadgets and books to develop the village school system. His philanthropy had a long-lasting impression, and in the locals’ hearts, he indeed was a real hero.

In memory of a legend
Irrfan Khan passed away on April 29, 2020, while fighting against neuroendocrine cancer. Nonetheless, his works inspire people, not only through his movies but by performing acts of altruism.
