Payal Kapadia’s award-winning film All We Imagine as Light has won yet another prestigious award, the Best Film Award at the Asian Film Awards 2025, which was held on Sunday at the Jiku Center in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. The movie, which has already won a number of awards, beat strong competition from movies such as Black Dog (China), Suhuma (South Korea), Tekki Cometh (Japan), and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In (Hong Kong).
Kapadia, who was extremely thrilled to receive the award, added, “It was a very special sensation to be appreciated for my movie in such a great cinema hall like Hong Kong. I am glad to be a member of that community with the wonderful films of Asia. It was also very special to get a nomination for this award, and receiving it now is even more special.” All We Imagine as Light is an official Indo-French co-production, so the recognition is even more special for the director.
Shahana Goswami and Sandhya Suri Star at the Awards
Besides Kapadia’s win, Santosh also made its presence felt at the awards. Actress Shahana Goswami was awarded the Best Actress Award for her compelling performance in the movie. Goswami thanked the organizers for the award, saying that she had an amazing experience working on Santosh. Together with her, director Sandhya Suri took home the Best New Director Award for Santosh, which was a huge milestone in her career.
The wins of All We Imagine as Light and Santosh at the Asian Film Awards demonstrate the international acclaim the two films are gaining for their outstanding performances and storytelling. Payal Kapadia, Shahana Goswami, and Sandhya Suri are beneficiaries of this acknowledgment, as their work continues to be applauded on the international scene.
