T Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture are joining hands once again after the success of Made in India: A Titan Story. This time, they are taking on a much bigger project with The Tatas, a premium multi season drama series based on Girish Kuber’s award winning book The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation. The series will tell the remarkable story of one of India’s most respected business families and how their vision helped shape the country’s growth over more than a century. Instead of focusing only on business decisions, the show will also explore the personal lives, struggles, dreams and values of the people behind the Tata name, making it a story that everyone can connect with.
The series will follow four generations of the Tata family, with each era highlighting a major chapter in India’s journey. It begins with founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, whose dream was to build a stronger and self reliant India through industries, education and hospitality. His vision led to the creation of Tata Steel, the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and the foundation that later became the Indian Institute of Science. The next chapter focuses on Sir Dorabji Tata, Sir Ratan Tata and Lady Meherbai Tata, who carried forward his vision by expanding the business, setting up Tata Hydro Electric Power and building the Tata Trusts that transformed philanthropy in India.
The story then moves to J R D Tata, who led the group for over five decades and introduced several game changing businesses. He launched Tata Airlines, which later became Air India, strengthened Tata Motors and played a key role in creating Tata Consultancy Services, now one of the world’s leading technology companies. The final chapter follows Ratan Naval Tata, whose leadership transformed the group into a global powerhouse through international acquisitions while also creating successful Indian brands like Titan that became household names.
Screenwriter Karan Vyas, who also wrote Made in India: A Titan Story, will adapt the book for the screen. Producers Bhushan Kumar and Prabhleen Sandhu say the series celebrates a family whose ideas, values and institutions helped build modern India. With scripts currently in development and announcements on the director and cast expected later this year, The Tatas is being positioned as a grand Indian drama with the potential to captivate audiences around the world.
