16-18 HOURS A DAY? NO WAY! Pankaj Tripathi Joins Deepika Padukone’s Fight for Better Work-Life Balance

In the midst of continuous speculation regarding Deepika Padukone’s withdrawal from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s next film Spirit, discussions regarding work-life balance within the film industry are getting mainstream attention. Rumors stated that Padukone, who welcomed motherhood recently, asked to restrict her work schedule to eight hours a day a condition which is reported to have not been agreeable to the director. Resonating with similar views, renowned actor Pankaj Tripathi has now weighed in on the need for drawing healthy professional boundaries.

“Learning to Say No Is a Skill”

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Tripathi opened up about his struggle with overwork and the personal journey of learning to say “no.” “Right now, I’m practicing saying ‘no.’ Because everyone should know where the boundary is – that this is the line, and beyond this, it’s a polite ‘no,’” he explained.

The actor remembered times when his shooting hours extended to a tiring 16 to 18 hours a day, and he would exclaim, “Kaam mein khiche jaa raha hai… Main bol bhi raha hu, actor jaa chuka hai. Labour ruka hua hai.” His experience is an example of how demanding and unstructured shoot timetables can be for actors and the whole crew.

Setting Limits with Grace and Respect

Tripathi emphasized the need to assert oneself politely. “Abhi toh aap vinamrata purvak bol dijiye ki ‘Nahi, itna hi hoga. Humne commit ye kiya tha, commitment humari poori ho gayi. Ab dhanyavaad. Jo bacha hai, kal karenge,'” he said, urging professionals to value their time and energy.

The Mirzapur actor feels establishing boundaries is not only essential in performing arts but in all professions. It’s all about maintaining sustainability, both physically and mentally, and having regard for one’s own commitments.

A Growing Conversation in the Industry

Tripathi’s remarks come at a time when more actors are advocating for balanced work schedules. Deepika Padukone’s reported exit from Spirit over an eight-hour workday clause reflects a growing demand for humane working conditions in an industry known for its relentless pace.
