Ranbir Kapoor’s dream project takes priority! Ayan Mukerji puts Brahmastra trilogy on hold what’s the real reason?

Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji’s highly anticipated Brahmastra trilogy has hit yet another delay. While fans were expecting Brahmastra Part Two: Dev to enter pre-production soon after War 2’s release, PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that Ayan is now shifting gears toward another big-ticket project Dhoom 4, produced by Yash Raj Films.

A Fresh Take on the Iconic Action Franchise

Aditya Chopra has officially roped in Ayan Mukerji to direct Dhoom 4, which is set to reboot the action-packed franchise with a new storyline, characters, and format. The fourth installment will star Ranbir Kapoor in the lead, stepping into a legacy shaped by John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, and Aamir Khan in previous Dhoom films.

According to insiders, although Ayan was initially reluctant to dive into another large-scale action film immediately after War 2, the combination of Aditya Chopra’s vision and Ranbir Kapoor’s involvement made it hard to refuse. He is expected to begin full-scale pre-production on Dhoom 4 once War 2 releases on August 14, 2025.

Financial Hurdles Slow Down ‘Brahmastra’ Sequel

Despite the massive buzz and cult following around Brahmastra, its second installment is currently facing financial constraints. While Dharma Productions retains the rights to the trilogy, sources suggest the studio is hesitant to invest in the enormous budget that Brahmastra 2 would require under current market conditions. “Ranbir and Ayan are deeply passionate about the trilogy, but they understand that the timing and financial landscape must be ideal,” a source shared.

New Timeline for Brahmastra Sequels

As Ayan turns his attention to Dhoom 4, the new plan is to begin work on Brahmastra Part Two: Dev in 2027. The production aims to shoot the second and third parts back-to-back, following a strategy similar to Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part Ramayana.

Dhoom 4 is expected to kick off filming in April 2026 and wrap by the end of the year, aiming for a theatrical release in 2027. Casting for the film’s two police officer roles and leading ladies is currently underway, promising a fresh ensemble to complement Ranbir’s new-age anti-hero.
