Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic residence, Mannat, in Mumbai’s Bandra Bandstand area, came under official inspection on Friday amid ongoing renovation. A joint team from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the forest department visited the property following a complaint alleging that the renovation violates Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules.
A forest department official confirmed the visit, stating, “A team did carry out a site inspection as we received a complaint about renovation permissions. A report will be prepared based on the findings and submitted soon.” BMC officials from the H-West ward’s building and factory department and the building proposal department were also present but clarified their role was limited to accompanying the forest team. Staff at Mannat reportedly assured officials that all necessary permissions and documents would be submitted.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Team Denies Violations
When contacted, Shah Rukh Khan’s manager told ETimes, “There are no complaints. All work is going on as per guidelines,” dismissing any alleged violations.
Legal Controversy Around Mannat’s Structure
The inspection follows serious allegations made by former IPS officer and lawyer Y P Singh, who claimed that the layout of Mannat had once included a heritage building named Villa Vienna. He alleged that in 2005, a seven-floor extension was constructed behind the original bungalow. Under the now-defunct Urban Land Ceiling Act, approval was taken for 12 smaller flats intended for mass housing, but Singh claims these were illegally merged into one luxury residence.
He argued that this merger was only possible due to “connivance of municipal officers” and called for the restoration of the 12 flats to uphold legal principles.
Family Temporarily Relocated
Due to the renovation, Shah Rukh Khan and his family have temporarily moved to a nearby building.
