Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’s Box Office Demolished: Varun Dhawan-Janhvi Kapoor’s Film Collects Rs 3 Crore on Day 5

Varun Dhawan's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Struggles to Stay Afloat: Rs 3 Crore Collection on Day 5

After an underwhelming start over the weekend, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari witnessed a sharp drop in box office earnings on Monday, collecting just Rs 3 crore net in India. The film, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, saw a steep 67% decline from its opening day collection of Rs 9.25 crore. This sharp dip comes despite the introduction of a Buy-One-Get-One ticket offer, a promotional strategy typically employed to sustain momentum post-weekend. According to trade experts, the film’s performance could have been even worse without the offer, signaling weak audience interest.

The five-day total for the romantic comedy now stands at Rs 33.75 crore, with early signs pointing toward a disappointing first-week finish of around Rs 37–39 crore. Despite having no major competition in theatres, the film is still losing ground to Kantara: Chapter 1, which continues to enjoy steady footfall and a loyal fan base. Industry analysts predict the lifetime domestic earnings of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari may struggle to cross the Rs 50 crore mark—a modest figure given the film’s star cast and scale.

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film follows Sunny (Varun Dhawan), whose heart is broken when his girlfriend Ananya (Sanya Malhotra) marries someone else under family pressure. Simultaneously, Tulsi (Janhvi Kapoor) is dumped by Vikram (Rohit Saraf), who chooses Ananya instead. The jilted lovers team up to crash the wedding of their respective exes, only to discover an unexpected bond between them amidst the chaos. The film combines elements of romantic comedy with lavish wedding settings, vibrant music, and nostalgic references aimed at evoking the charm of classic Bollywood.

However, audiences have been lukewarm in their response, with many citing a lack of emotional depth, a predictable narrative, and inconsistent screenplay as key drawbacks. While the film tries to juggle modern relationship dilemmas with traditional wedding tropes, it falters in delivering a compelling emotional payoff. Word-of-mouth has been mixed, which has further hampered its box office prospects.

With its theatrical run unlikely to see a significant turnaround, the film’s future may depend on its digital release, where it might find a second life among OTT audiences. For now, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari stands as a reminder that star power and promotions alone cannot guarantee box office success.
