The legal battle surrounding the vast estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has taken a sharper turn, with actor Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Raj Kapur, leveling serious allegations against his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur. As proceedings continue in the Delhi High Court, the siblings have accused Priya of deliberately failing to disclose the full extent of their father’s assets in court, intensifying an already high-stakes inheritance dispute.
According to a report by NDTV, Samaira and Kiaan have claimed that the asset list submitted by Priya Kapur is incomplete and misleading. In their submission to the court, the children alleged that several high-value movable and immovable assets owned by Sunjay Kapur were omitted from the disclosure. These reportedly include expensive polo horses and related sporting equipment, luxury wristwatches from premium brands such as Audemars Piguet and Rolex, as well as multiple valuable artworks.
In addition to these items, the siblings have also alleged that certain immovable properties owned by their late father were not included in Priya’s asset list. They further pointed out discrepancies between Priya Kapur’s disclosures and a separate list previously submitted by Rani Kapur, claiming that assets mentioned by Rani Kapur were also missing from Priya’s filing. The children have described these omissions as a “deliberate concealment” of assets.
As part of their plea, Samaira and Kiaan have sought a direction from the Delhi High Court requiring Priya Kapur to disclose, under oath, a complete and accurate list of all assets belonging to Sunjay Kapur. The matter is scheduled to be heard next on Tuesday, January 20, when the court will consider the allegations and the competing claims.
Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12 at the age of 53 after suffering a heart attack during a polo match. Reports suggest the medical emergency may have been triggered by a bee sting. At the time of his death, Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a leading automotive components company with a significant global footprint. The firm has operations across India, China, Mexico, Serbia and the United States, and plays a key role in manufacturing components for electric vehicles.
According to Forbes estimates from 2024, Sunjay Kapur’s net worth stood at approximately $1.2 billion, or around Rs 10,300 crore. At its peak valuation, his wealth was estimated to be as high as $1.6 billion, roughly Rs 13,000 crore. However, the ongoing legal dispute references an estate value estimated at nearly Rs 30,000 crore, factoring in trusts, global assets and associated holdings.
Karisma Kapoor’s children have approached the Delhi High Court seeking their rightful share in their father’s estate. Their petition primarily challenges the claim made by Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s third wife, whom he married after his divorce from Karisma Kapoor. The siblings have also questioned the authenticity of the will that was disclosed to them following their father’s death, alleging that it is “forged and fabricated.”
Priya Kapur, on the other hand, has strongly contested these allegations. She has maintained that she is the sole beneficiary named in Sunjay Kapur’s will and, therefore, the lawful administrator of his estate. Her legal counsel has argued that the children’s suit seeking partition of the estate is “not maintainable” in light of the valid testamentary document.
Further strengthening her position, Priya’s legal team has claimed that Samaira and Kiaan have already received substantial financial benefits through a family trust. According to her lawyers, the children have received beneficial interests worth nearly Rs 1,900 crore, suggesting that the current legal action is an attempt to delay or obstruct the execution of Sunjay Kapur’s will.
The case has drawn considerable public attention due to the enormous value of the estate involved, the prominence of the individuals connected to the dispute, and the serious nature of the allegations being exchanged. As the matter continues to unfold in court, the focus will remain on whether the asset disclosures were complete and accurate, and on the validity of the contested will.
With the next hearing scheduled soon, the Delhi High Court is expected to examine the claims of asset concealment and determine whether further disclosures or directions are warranted. Until then, the inheritance battle over Sunjay Kapur’s legacy remains unresolved, with significant legal and financial implications for all parties involved.
