Television actress Adrija Roy, who is currently winning hearts as Raahi in the popular show Anupamaa, is stepping into an exciting new phase of her personal life. The actress is all set to get engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Thane-based businessman Vignuesh Iyer, on January 25. The engagement ceremony will be an intimate and close-knit affair, attended only by family members and close friends, and will take place at Vignuesh’s farmhouse.
Sharing details about how their love story began, Adrija recalls their first meeting with fondness. “We met in May last year at a common friend’s party. We instantly liked each other’s personalities,” she says. What started as a casual introduction soon turned into something deeper. Vignuesh expressed his interest in getting to know her better, and the two began talking regularly on Instagram before deciding to meet again.
Their first official date took place in early June, and that meeting further strengthened their connection. “Everything felt natural and comfortable,” Adrija shares, adding that there was a sense of ease between them right from the beginning. Over time, frequent conversations and shared experiences brought them closer, laying the foundation for a meaningful relationship.
According to the actress, it was their similar outlook on life that truly bonded them. “We are both very soft, grounded, and down-to-earth people,” she explains. Adrija also reveals that she had always imagined herself being with someone outside the entertainment industry. “I always wanted a partner who was not from the industry, and when I met him, everything just felt right. We genuinely feel like soulmates.”
One of the strongest factors that deepened their bond was their mutual love for animals. Both Adrija and Vignuesh are passionate animal lovers, and this shared affection became an important emotional connection between them. Their compassion and shared values helped them understand each other better and grow closer over time.
Vignuesh Iyer comes from a respected business family. His father, Rajzu Ranganathan Iyer, is a well-known businessman and the Chairman and Managing Director of the JNB Group. Despite his prominent background, Adrija describes Vignuesh as humble and grounded, qualities that she deeply admires.
Balancing her personal milestones with professional commitments, Adrija has taken a three-day break from the sets of Anupamaa to celebrate her engagement. The actress, who plays an important role in the show, expresses heartfelt gratitude towards her production house, Directors Kut (DKP), for their support.
“My production house has always been extremely kind and understanding, especially during important moments in my life,” she says. “Even for my engagement, they have been very cooperative. They will plan the shoot in advance and manage with close shots.” Adrija adds that she has invited members of the DKP team to the ceremony, and those who can manage their schedules will attend. “I feel very lucky to be part of such a caring and supportive team,” she adds.
When it comes to wedding plans, Adrija shares that there is no rush. The couple has decided not to get married this year, choosing instead to take time to plan their big day thoughtfully. “He is South Indian and I am Bengali, so our cultures are very different,” she explains.
Adrija dreams of a wedding that beautifully blends both South Indian and Bengali traditions. “I want a wedding that represents both our cultures, and that needs time and careful planning,” she says. For now, the couple is looking at getting married within the next two years, focusing on enjoying their engagement and building their future together.
