Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of Ramayana continues to generate massive buzz among cinema lovers, with fresh updates about its ever-expanding cast adding to the excitement. Touted as one of the biggest Indian films ever mounted, the mythological epic is being developed as a two-part saga and features an ensemble lineup of some of the industry’s biggest names. Now, a new report suggests a key casting change for the second installment of the film.
According to a report by Variety India, actor Raghav Juyal has replaced Vikrant Massey in Ramayana. Juyal has reportedly been brought on board to play Meghanad, the formidable eldest son of Ravana. Previously, Vikrant Massey—fresh off critical acclaim for 12th Fail—was said to be in talks for the role. However, the latest update indicates that the makers have finalized Raghav Juyal for the part instead.
Meghanad, also known as Indrajit in Hindu mythology, is a crucial character in the Ramayana narrative. Known for his valor, strategic brilliance, and near-invincibility, Meghanad plays a significant role in the latter half of the epic. As per the report, Juyal’s character will primarily feature in Ramayana: Part 2, which is expected to delve deeper into the intense battles and dramatic turning points of the story.
For context, Ramayana is being developed as a two-part cinematic spectacle. An industry insider previously told Pinkvilla that given the sheer scale, emotional depth, and mythological richness of the story, the filmmakers decided early on that a single film would not do justice to the narrative. “While most in the business wait for the results of part one before taking the sequel on floors, Ramayana will be shot simultaneously,” revealed the source.
The production has reportedly planned a massive 350-day shooting schedule spanning both films. What makes this project particularly unique is that a substantial portion of Ramayana: Part 2 will be filmed even before the first part hits theatres. Both films are expected to release within a one-year gap, with Ramayana: Part 2 tentatively slated for a Diwali 2027 release. Given this schedule, Raghav Juyal is likely to join the sets soon to begin filming his portions.
Leading the epic is Ranbir Kapoor, who will portray a character inspired by Lord Ram. The actor is said to be undergoing extensive physical and emotional preparation for the role. He is joined by Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Kannada superstar Yash as Ravana. The casting of Yash, in particular, has sparked widespread interest, with fans eager to see him portray the powerful antagonist.
Adding to the intrigue, a recent report by Movies Singapore suggested that Vijay Sethupathi is being considered for the role of Vibhishana, Ravana’s righteous brother. However, the makers have yet to make any official announcement regarding this casting.
The ensemble cast of Ramayana also includes Ravie Dubey, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Arun Govil, Kunal Kapoor, and several other notable actors. With its star-studded lineup, massive production scale, and simultaneous two-part shoot, Ramayana is shaping up to be a landmark project in Indian cinema.
As casting updates continue to surface, anticipation around Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus only grows stronger, positioning Ramayana as one of the most closely watched films in the years to come.
