Vijay Breaks Silence on Divorce Drama Amid Trisha Krishnan Rumours — Makes Big Promise to Women Ahead of Elections

Actor-politician Vijay addresses divorce controversy and Trisha rumours while announcing major welfare promises for women ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections.

Actor-politician Vijay has been dominating headlines over the past few days after reports surfaced that his wife, Sangeetha, had filed for divorce. The news quickly grabbed public attention, especially after Vijay was seen attending a wedding reception alongside actor Trisha shortly after the legal developments came to light.

As speculation and rumours about his personal life intensified across social media and news platforms, Vijay finally addressed the situation during a public event, urging his supporters not to be hurt by the ongoing issues surrounding him. The actor made the remarks while attending his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s International Women’s Day celebrations held in Mamallapuram, where he also unveiled several welfare promises aimed at women ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

During his speech at the event, Vijay briefly spoke about the controversies linked to his personal life and the reactions they have triggered among his supporters. Without directly naming the issue, he acknowledged that some recent developments had been troubling his followers. The TVK chief appealed to his supporters not to worry or get emotionally affected by the situation, stating that he would personally handle whatever problems were arising. Vijay said he felt pained when he saw his fans getting hurt while defending him online or arguing about his personal matters. Reassuring them, he told supporters that there was nothing to worry about and that he would take care of everything. His comments were seen as an attempt to calm speculation and shift the focus back to his political agenda as he prepares to enter active politics.

At the same event, Vijay announced a series of welfare promises targeted at women voters, outlining some of the initiatives his party would implement if elected to power in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Among the key proposals was a monthly financial assistance scheme that would provide ₹2,500 to women. He also promised that young women would receive a sovereign of gold along with a silk saree as a wedding gift under a government scheme. In addition to these benefits, Vijay announced that every family would receive six LPG cylinders free of cost annually. These promises are expected to play a significant role in his party’s campaign strategy as it seeks to establish itself as a major political force in the state.

Meanwhile, fresh developments regarding Vijay’s personal life emerged through a report by news agency ANI, which revealed details from court documents related to the divorce petition filed by Sangeetha. According to the report, Sangeetha initiated legal proceedings in early 2026 at the District Court in Chengalpattu, seeking the dissolution of their marriage. Along with the divorce plea, she also requested an interim order allowing her to continue living at their matrimonial residence located on Casuarina Drive in Chennai until the case is resolved. The petition reportedly states that Sangeetha is a British citizen and currently does not have another residence in India, which is why she is seeking permission to remain in the property during the legal process.

The court filing also includes serious allegations against Vijay. In the petition, Sangeetha has accused him of infidelity, claiming that he has been involved in an “adulterous relationship” with a female actor. While the petition does not officially name anyone, the allegations quickly fueled speculation online, especially after Vijay was seen attending a wedding reception with actor Trisha on March 5. The two arrived together at the event, walked to the stage side by side to greet the newlyweds, and posed for photographs before leaving the venue around the same time. Their public appearance together soon went viral and reignited discussions about their long-standing professional and personal equation.

Trisha and Vijay have shared a popular on-screen pairing in several films over the years and have often been among the most talked-about duos in Tamil cinema. They worked together in hit films like Ghilli and Leo, and Trisha also made a cameo appearance in Vijay’s film The GOAT. Their long history of collaborations has frequently drawn attention from fans, which is why their recent appearance together quickly became a trending topic online.

Vijay and Sangeetha were married in August 1999 in ceremonies conducted according to both Hindu and Christian traditions. The couple has two children — Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. For many fans, the news of their marital dispute came as a shock, as the actor has largely kept his personal life away from the public spotlight over the years.

On the professional front, Vijay is preparing for the release of Jana Nayagan, which is expected to be his final film before fully transitioning into politics. The actor had earlier announced the formation of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and declared his intention to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. While Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled for release earlier, it faced a delay in January, and a new release date has yet to be officially announced. As Vijay moves closer to his political debut, both his professional moves and personal life continue to attract intense public and media attention.
