Actor Delnaaz Irani recently spoke openly about one of the most difficult phases of her life, her divorce from actor Rajeev Paul. Looking back, she shared that she made a conscious choice to walk away without asking for alimony because she valued her peace of mind more than anything else.
She explained that although their divorce became public around 2010, their relationship had already been struggling for a long time before that. According to Delnaaz, they had many conversations about their problems as a couple. However, things did not improve. She felt that she was being taken for granted and that her partner did not realise how serious the situation had become. Coming from a middle class Parsi family, she said divorce was never something she had imagined for herself. In her family, long lasting marriages were the norm, and even though they were open minded, separation was not taken lightly.
The emotional stress during that time was very intense for her. She also chose not to share her struggles with her parents, which made things even harder. Around the same period, her father suffered a heart attack in 2010 and sadly passed away in 2011. This added to her pain and made that phase of her life even more challenging.
Talking about the divorce, Delnaaz said it became complicated because one person wanted it while the other did not. Despite everything, she decided not to fight over money or property. She believed that dragging the matter in court would only disturb her peace further. Instead, she focused on healing and rebuilding her life step by step.
Delnaaz and Rajeev were married for over ten years after meeting in 1993 and tying the knot in 1998. Their divorce was finalised in 2012. Interestingly, both of them appeared on the reality show Bigg Boss 6 soon after their separation.
Today, Delnaaz has moved forward and found happiness again with her partner DJ Percy Karkaria. She shared that her 50th birthday marked a special moment when he asked her not for marriage, but to grow old together. She says they are happy choosing their own path and living life on their own terms.
