Olivia Rodrigo Says Friendship Matters More Than Romance

Olivia Rodrigo shares her views on love, saying friendships matter most, while also opening up about dating, patience, and lessons from relationships.

Olivia Rodrigo recently spoke about her views on love and relationships, saying that she is currently focusing more on friendships than romance. The singer has been in the news for her personal life, including reports linking her to Cameron Winter after her earlier relationship with Louis Partridge ended.

In an interview, Olivia Rodrigo explained that friendships play the most important role in her life right now. She said, “Oh my god. I’m in the most important phase, the friendship love that I’m sitting right across from. Best friend, community love. Dating is just the cherry on top”. She highlighted how having a strong support system of friends helps her stay grounded.

The 23 year old singer also shared what she has learned about love over time. She said, “Patience. Things happen the way that they’re supposed to happen. It’s not supposed to be white knuckle. But also, Madison, you’re the longest love of my life besides my parents. It’s like that book that I’m obsessed with, the Dolly Alderton book, Everything I Know About Love, I do for my female friends”. Her comments show how she values long term friendships as much as, or even more than, romantic relationships.

She also spoke about how she and her friends support each other when making decisions, especially about dating. She said, “If something is going on and we need to make a decision about a boy or something, we text the chat and go ‘Jury Duty’, and the jury commences and decides”. This reflects how her friend group plays an active role in her personal life.

Olivia Rodrigo also praised her close friend Madison for being honest with her. She said, “You know me in and out and still love me anyway, and you call me on my s***. That’s a true friend. Sometimes you’re hard on me when it comes to my music”. She added that any person she dates must be comfortable spending time with her and her friends.

Talking about her music, she revealed that her song Drop Dead was inspired by a positive first date. She said, “I just wanted to capture that first interaction you have with someone, like, This could be the best thing ever; I’m going to tell all my friends. It reminds me of running around a city, feeling young and free. I felt that a lot while writing the album”.
