Prime Video has released the official trailer for The Devil’s Mouth, a survival thriller that combines adventure, suspense and horror. The film is set to begin streaming on July 29 and tells the story of a group of college friends whose holiday in Thailand turns into a life threatening struggle for survival.
The film stars Lana Condor, Kathryn Newton, Gavin Casalegno, Nico Hiraga, Tommi Rose and Tayme Thapthimthong. The story follows a group of friends who travel to Thailand for a vacation. At first, they enjoy swimming in clear blue water after jumping from a boat. However, the real danger begins when they decide to explore a cave system known as The Devil’s Mouth.
Tayme Thapthimthong plays the group’s guide as they enter the underwater caves. The entrance to the cave resembles the open mouth of a shark, with sharp rocks forming what looks like large teeth. As the group moves deeper inside, strange signs begin to appear. Kathryn Newton’s character notices dead animals floating in the water and later spots blood spreading through the cave. The situation becomes even more frightening when the guide finds a shark tooth inside a damaged pair of goggles floating on the water’s surface. Moments later, a bull shark attacks Gavin Casalegno’s character, leaving the group trapped inside the dangerous cave system.
During the trailer, Lana Condor’s character asks, “How is there a shark in a freshwater cave system?” The question reflects the mystery at the centre of the film as the friends try to understand how the predator ended up inside the caves while searching for a way to escape.
The screenplay has been written by Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner, with later revisions by director Jeff Wadlow. The script was also included in the 2019 Black List, an annual survey of well regarded unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. Jeff Wadlow also serves as a producer alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee. The project is a co production between Lionsgate and Prime Video.
With its combination of underwater survival, mystery and shark attacks, The Devil’s Mouth offers a different take on the survival thriller genre. The film will be available for streaming on Prime Video from July 29.
