Tamil film DC, starring Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi, ended its opening weekend with Rs. 22 crore at the Indian box office. The film showed a strong improvement on its third day, collecting Rs. 10 crore. This was a 48 per cent increase compared with Day 2, giving the film a noticeable boost before the start of the weekdays.
Directed by Arun Matheswaran, DC now needs to maintain steady collections from Monday onwards if it wants to have a successful run in theatres. The opening weekend has given the film a reasonable start, but its performance during the weekdays will be important in deciding its overall box office result.
The film will also face competition from Vishwanath & Sons from its second weekend. The arrival of the new release could affect DC’s screen count and audience share. Before that happens, the film will be looking to cross the Rs. 30 crore mark in India.

Looking at the territory wise business, DC collected around Rs. 7 crore in Tamil Nadu during its first three days. The home market could have performed better, as a collection in the double digits over the opening weekend would have given the film a stronger position.
The film performed better in the Telugu states, where it added Rs. 6.50 crore to its total. Kerala contributed Rs. 3.75 crore, while Karnataka brought in Rs. 3 crore. The remaining Indian markets contributed another Rs. 1.75 crore.

The next major test for DC will be its Monday collection. A strong hold on Monday would indicate that the film has found a steady audience beyond the opening weekend. The weekday numbers will then provide a clearer picture of whether the movie can continue its theatrical run successfully.
For now, the film has collected Rs. 22.00 crore in India and will be aiming to move past Rs. 30 crore before the second weekend.
