Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart managed to hold reasonably well on its first Monday at the Hindi box office. The mythological fantasy drama collected around Rs. 1 crore to Rs. 1.10 crore on Monday. While the hold is decent in general, the film needed a stronger trend after its weekend growth. The Monday number dropped closer to Friday levels instead of staying near the Saturday collections.
After the first Monday, the film’s total Hindi box office collection reached Rs. 7.75 crore nett. Apart from Hindi, the movie also released in Telugu and Tamil dubbed versions, which have contributed around Rs. 65 lakh nett so far. The film is now expected to end its first week with around Rs. 10 crore nett in Hindi.
One important factor working in the film’s favour is that it does not have any major star leading the project. Despite that, the movie has managed a fair performance in limited release conditions. Krishnavataram Part 1 released on around 700 screens in the Hindi market, which is comparatively low for a film of this scale and genre.
The film has also drawn comparisons with last year’s Mahavatar Narsimha, an animated movie based on avatars of Lord Vishnu. That film opened with Rs. 1.25 crore nett on its first day and then saw massive growth over the weekend, collecting Rs. 3.25 crore nett on Saturday and Rs. 6.25 crore nett on Sunday. It eventually went on to collect Rs. 170 crore nett in Hindi.
Krishnavataram Part 1 is based on the Krishna avatar and follows a live action format instead of animation. However, its weekend trend has not been as strong as Mahavatar Narsimha so far. Even then, trade observers believe mythological films can be difficult to predict because audience response can change suddenly over time.
Last year, Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahayate had a very slow start and showed almost no movement during its first three weeks before suddenly picking up strongly later.
For now, the main target for Krishnavataram Part 1 will be to maintain steady weekday collections closer to Saturday levels and show growth again during the second weekend.
