Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai completed its first week at the Indian box office with a total collection of Rs. 36 crore nett. The film added an estimated Rs. 2.50 crore on Day 7, Thursday, bringing its opening week to a close. Considering the film’s scale, cast, and expectations, the first week performance has been viewed as below expectations.
The comedy drama features Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, Pooja Hegde, and several other actors in key roles. The film is also being promoted as the final directorial project of veteran filmmaker David Dhawan. Despite the star cast and established director, the movie has received mixed to average feedback from audiences, which has limited its growth at the box office so far.
One of the more interesting aspects of the film’s box office journey has been its collection pattern. The movie experienced a noticeable drop on Saturday after its opening day, raising concerns about its long term prospects. However, unlike many films that continue to decline sharply after a weak weekend, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai managed to maintain relatively steady collections during the weekdays.
Industry observers have noted that promotional offers may have helped support ticket sales. However, since these offers did not significantly boost the opening day collections, their overall impact remains uncertain. A similar collection pattern was seen with another release earlier this year, where weekday numbers remained stable before dropping in the second week. It remains to be seen whether the same trend will affect this film.
The film now faces an important second week as several new Bollywood and Hollywood releases arrive in cinemas. Movies such as Main Vaapas Aaunga, Governor, Disclosure Day, and Backrooms are expected to increase competition for audience attention and screen space.
Despite its challenges, the film’s weekday stability has improved its chances of crossing the Rs. 50 crore nett mark. Following the sharp Saturday decline, such a result appeared unlikely. There is even a possibility that the film could approach the Rs. 60 crore nett total earned by Varun Dhawan’s previous release, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsii Kumari.
However, even if it reaches those numbers, the film is still likely to be viewed as a box office disappointment relative to its budget and expectations. The second weekend will be crucial in determining how far Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai can extend its theatrical run and whether it can maintain its current momentum.
