Varun Dhawan’s romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai continued its run at the box office but witnessed another decline in collections during its second week. On its second Wednesday, which marked Day 13 of release, the film earned an estimated Rs. 0.75 crore. This represented a drop of around 25 per cent compared to its performance on Monday.
With the latest figures, the film’s second week total has reached approximately Rs. 9.80 crore in 6 days. Based on current trends, the movie is expected to end its second week with collections in the range of Rs. 10.50 crore to Rs. 11 crore nett.
The overall collection of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai now stands at Rs. 45.70 crore nett at the Indian box office. Industry estimates suggest that the film may conclude its theatrical run close to the Rs. 50 crore mark. While this would be a respectable total, it is unlikely to be considered a major box office success.
Directed by David Dhawan, the film has generated attention because it is being described as the veteran filmmaker’s final directorial venture. However, despite the anticipation surrounding the project and the popularity of its lead actor, the movie has received mixed reactions from audiences and critics. This has affected its ability to maintain strong momentum after the opening weekend.
The film started with a solid opening, collecting Rs. 7.50 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs. 7.40 crore on Day 2 and Rs. 8.75 crore on Day 3. However, collections gradually declined during the weekdays and have continued to slow during the second week.
The performance of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai also reflects the broader challenges currently faced by romantic comedies and medium budget films. In recent years, audience viewing habits have changed significantly, with many viewers choosing to wait for digital releases rather than watching films in theatres. Industry observers believe this trend has affected the theatrical performance of several films, particularly those outside the large scale action and event movie category.
Despite its struggles, the film has managed to attract a section of family audiences and fans of the romantic comedy genre. However, its box office journey suggests that audience expectations and market conditions remain challenging for this type of film.
With collections standing at Rs. 45.70 crore after 13 days, all eyes will now be on whether the film can comfortably cross the Rs. 50 crore milestone before ending its theatrical run.
