Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day Struggles To Reach 10 Crore In India

Disclosure Day has earned Rs 7.86 crore in India after 6 days, while horror film Obsession continues its strong run with Rs 70.25 crore.

Steven Spielberg’s latest science fiction thriller Disclosure Day has performed strongly in several international markets, but its box office journey in India has been far more challenging. Despite being directed by one of Hollywood’s most respected filmmakers and featuring a well known cast, the film has struggled to attract large audiences in Indian cinemas.

According to trade estimates, Disclosure Day collected Rs 0.43 crore net in India on Day 6. This represented a drop of around 25.9 percent compared to Day 5, when the film earned Rs 0.58 crore. The movie was screened across 1,112 shows on Wednesday and recorded an occupancy of approximately 9 percent, reflecting limited audience turnout during the weekdays.

After six days in theatres, the film’s total India net collection stands at Rs 7.86 crore, while its India gross collection has reached Rs 9.43 crore. Considering the scale of the project and Steven Spielberg’s popularity among moviegoers, these figures are lower than many industry observers had expected. The film is yet to cross the Rs 10 crore mark in India, a milestone that was widely expected to be achieved during its opening week.

The day wise India net collections are Rs 1.80 crore on Friday, Rs 2.50 crore on Saturday, Rs 2.00 crore on Sunday, Rs 0.55 crore on Monday, Rs 0.58 crore on Tuesday, and Rs 0.43 crore on Wednesday. This brings the total to Rs 7.86 crore net.

While the Indian performance has been underwhelming, the film has enjoyed much stronger results internationally. Disclosure Day opened with approximately Rs 367.4 crore domestically in North America and collected around Rs 775.7 crore worldwide during its opening weekend, highlighting its stronger appeal in overseas markets.

Directed by Steven Spielberg and written by David Koepp, the film follows a suspense filled investigation into a government conspiracy linked to extraterrestrial life. The cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.

Meanwhile, independent horror film Obsession continues to deliver impressive results worldwide. Directed by Curry Barker, the supernatural thriller has emerged as one of the year’s surprise box office successes. On Day 20, the film collected Rs 1.70 crore net in India, a drop of 15 percent from the previous day’s Rs 2.00 crore.

Obsession has now accumulated Rs 70.25 crore net and Rs 83.67 crore gross in India. Globally, the film has crossed approximately Rs 2,456.5 crore, making it one of the most profitable releases of the year.

The upcoming weekend will be important for Disclosure Day. The film will need stronger audience support and positive word of mouth to improve its performance in India. While it remains a success in many international markets, its box office results in India have so far remained below expectations.
