Cocktail 2, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, continued its box office run with a steady performance on its 2nd Friday. The film collected around Rs. 3.50 crore nett, taking its total collection to Rs. 67.50 crore nett in India. The movie managed to hold well after its first week, which is a positive sign for its theatrical run.
According to trade reports, the overall collection looks good on paper. However, some industry observers believe that the film benefited from external factors during its run. Because of this, they feel that while the reported collections remain the same, the overall box office numbers should be viewed with caution. Even so, the official total currently stands at Rs. 67.50 crore nett.
The film is expected to earn around Rs. 11 crore to Rs. 14 crore during its second weekend. If that happens, the total collection will comfortably cross the Rs. 75 crore mark. After reaching that milestone, the film will still need around Rs. 25 crore more to enter the Rs. 100 crore club. Achieving that target may be difficult because several major films are scheduled to release over the next few weeks, increasing competition at the box office.
The original Cocktail was released in 2012 and collected around Rs. 74.50 crore nett during its theatrical run. It was considered a successful film at the box office. While Cocktail 2 is expected to cross that lifetime collection in terms of actual numbers, the original film’s earnings would be much higher when adjusted for inflation. This means the sequel may still fall short when comparing the real value of the collections.
The coming weeks will be important for Cocktail 2. A steady performance during weekdays and a good hold despite new releases will decide how close it gets to the Rs. 100 crore mark. For now, the film has maintained stable collections and remains one of the better performing Hindi releases currently in cinemas.
