Odisha’s talented singer Jyotirmayee Nayak has been crowned the winner of Indian Idol Season 16, bringing an unforgettable season to a close. The grand finale aired on July 26 after more than nine months of competition, with singers from across the country battling for the prestigious title. Jyotirmayee received the highest number of audience votes, defeating finalists Tanishk Shukla, Manraj Veer Singh, Anshika Chonkar, Myscmme Bosu and Suhail Sufi. Tanishk finished as the first runner up, while Manraj secured the third spot. Along with the winner’s trophy, Jyotirmayee received a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh, while the other finalists were awarded Rs 5 lakh each. As her name was announced, the stage erupted in celebration with confetti, and her emotional family and fellow contestants joined her to celebrate the big moment.
For her final performance, Jyotirmayee sang Saiyaan O Saiyaan, once again impressing everyone with her beautiful voice and heartfelt emotions. Speaking after her victory, she said winning Indian Idol felt like a dream come true. She shared that she had entered the auditions with nothing but hope and that every performance during the competition helped her grow as a singer and as a person. Jyotirmayee thanked Sony Entertainment Television, Fremantle, the judges, host Aditya Narayan, the show’s crew, her family, friends and everyone who voted for her. She also said that the trophy belongs to everyone who supported her throughout the journey and promised to continue making music that touches people’s hearts.
The finale featured judges Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah, while Vishal Dadlani joined the celebrations through a video call because he was unable to attend due to a prior commitment. Host Aditya Narayan led the grand finale, and Udit Narayan, who had guided contestants during the early part of the season, also appeared. The special episode became even more memorable with performances and appearances by music legends and celebrities including Usha Uthup, Kumar Sanu, Papon, Shehnaaz Gill and Urmila Matondkar.
Jyotirmayee had been one of the strongest contestants throughout the season. Her performances regularly earned standing ovations and praise from both judges and special guests. Veteran actress Hema Malini applauded her performance of O Jab Tak Hai Jaan Jaane Jahan Main Nachungi, while actress Leena Chandavarkar was deeply touched by her rendition of Jaane Kyun Log Mohabbat Kiya Karte Hain. Before joining Indian Idol, Jyotirmayee had already built a successful career in the Odia music industry. She had also used music to support cancer patients during therapy sessions, making her journey even more inspiring. With her Indian Idol 16 victory, Jyotirmayee now begins an exciting new chapter in her musical career, carrying the hopes and love of millions of fans across the country.
