Ryan Reynolds gave Marvel fans one of the funniest and most unexpected moments at San Diego Comic Con 2026. The actor made a surprise appearance during Marvel Studios’ massive Hall H presentation, but instead of walking on stage as his usual Deadpool, he arrived wearing an all denim version of the character that fans are now calling “Jeanpool.” The unexpected stunt immediately grabbed everyone’s attention and added a dose of comedy to an event already packed with major announcements. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who was hosting the panel, invited someone from the audience carrying swords to ask the Avengers Doomsday cast a question. At first, many people were unsure if it was actually Ryan Reynolds because he never removed his Deadpool mask. Some even believed it could be a body double with a recorded voice. Later, Reynolds confirmed it was really him by sharing photos of himself in the costume on Instagram Stories, proudly calling himself “Jeanpool.”
Staying completely in character, Reynolds introduced himself as a longtime Marvel fan and joked that he did not wear Doctor Doom’s mask over his Deadpool mask because he did not want to spoil the look of his “Canadian tuxedo.” His denim outfit reminded comic book readers of the black and gray costume Deadpool wore during his X Force days. Reynolds then turned to Paul Rudd with a playful question, asking why Thor was crying, a joke that referenced a memorable scene from Deadpool and Wolverine. Rudd quickly fired back with a funny reply, saying Thor was probably upset because he was a fan of Reynolds’ football club, Wrexham. The lighthearted exchange had the audience laughing throughout the panel.
Reynolds also joked about whether Avengers Doomsday was still filming. He asked if there would be any extra filming or last minute additions to the movie, clearly hinting that he wanted to join the cast. When the answer suggested there were no new opportunities, he jokingly acted disappointed and walked away. For months, fans have believed Deadpool could appear in Avengers Doomsday, but Marvel has still not officially confirmed his involvement. Last year, Reynolds said he had not stepped onto the film’s set, keeping fans guessing about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Even though his role in Avengers Doomsday remains a mystery, Reynolds gave fans another exciting update. During Fanatics Fest 2026 earlier this month, he revealed that another Deadpool movie is being planned, saying there are exciting things ahead for the character. The Marvel panel also featured stars including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, Simu Liu, James Marsden and Hayley Atwell. The event ended with another huge surprise as director Ryan Coogler officially announced Black Panther 3. He confirmed that David Jonsson will play Prince T Challa II, also known as Toussaint, the grown up son of T Challa and the next Black Panther, giving Marvel fans yet another reason to look forward to the future of the franchise.
