Marvel Studios has officially announced Black Panther 3, bringing one of the biggest surprises from San Diego Comic Con 2026. Oscar winning director Ryan Coogler confirmed that the next chapter in the popular superhero franchise is now in development and will introduce a brand new Black Panther. Rising star David Jonsson has been cast as T Challa, the son of the late King T Challa, who was originally played by the beloved Chadwick Boseman. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 15, 2028, and the announcement immediately became one of the biggest talking points of Marvel’s Hall H presentation.

The decision fits naturally with the ending of Black Panther Wakanda Forever, which introduced viewers to T Challa’s young son. In the emotional final moments of the 2022 film, Nakia, played by Lupita Nyong’o, revealed that she had secretly been raising her son away from Wakanda. She also revealed that his Wakandan name is T Challa, honoring his late father. Black Panther 3 will now continue that story by showing the grown up prince stepping forward to protect Wakanda and carry on his father’s legacy. This approach allows Marvel to honor Chadwick Boseman’s unforgettable performance while moving the story forward with the next generation of heroes instead of recasting the original character.
Rumors about the third Black Panther movie have been circulating for years.
