The Odyssey Crosses Rs. 140.75 Crore In India As Spider Man Challenge Looms

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has collected Rs. 140.75 crore in India after its second weekend and now faces competition from Spider Man: Brand New Day.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continued its successful run at the Indian box office by earning around Rs. 36.25 crore during its second weekend. The film collected approximately Rs. 14 crore on both Saturday and Sunday, showing steady business over the weekend. Although trade expected a slight jump in collections on Sunday, the film remained almost flat compared to Saturday. After 10 days in theatres, the film’s total India net collection has reached an estimated Rs. 140.75 crore.

Featuring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and several other well known actors, the film is expected to continue its run through the current week. Based on its present trend, The Odyssey is likely to finish the week with a total collection of around Rs. 155 crore to Rs. 160 crore before facing fresh competition at the box office.

The biggest challenge for the film will arrive next weekend with the release of Spider Man: Brand New Day. The superhero film has already reported very strong advance bookings in India, indicating that it could attract a large share of moviegoers. As a result, existing releases, including The Odyssey, may see a reduction in screens and collections once the new film arrives.

Despite the upcoming competition, The Odyssey still has the potential to finish its theatrical run with around Rs. 190 crore to Rs. 200 crore if it manages to hold well in the coming weeks. Much of the film’s success in India has been credited to the popularity of Christopher Nolan, who has built a loyal fan base in the country over the years. His films consistently attract audiences, regardless of genre, making him one of the most successful international filmmakers in the Indian market.

The director’s popularity has continued to grow with recent releases such as Oppenheimer and the successful re release of Interstellar. Interestingly, epic historical adventures have not traditionally been among the strongest performing genres in India. Even so, The Odyssey has managed to deliver impressive numbers, highlighting the strong appeal of Nolan’s name among Indian audiences. Trade analysts believe that films with broader commercial appeal, similar to Inception, could potentially perform even better if directed by Nolan.
