Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has continued its theatrical run with a steady performance on its second Friday. After collecting an impressive Rs. 178.50 crore gross during its opening week, the film added an estimated Rs. 4.25 crore on Day 8, taking its total India gross collection to Rs. 182.75 crore.
The film is expected to perform well over its second weekend despite facing competition from Spider Man: Brand New Day. Trade estimates suggest that Jana Nayagan could collect around Rs. 17 crore to Rs. 18 crore during the weekend, which would push its total India gross beyond Rs. 192 crore by the end of Day 10.
Looking ahead, the film is expected to earn another Rs. 5 crore to Rs. 10 crore during the remainder of its theatrical run. If it maintains this trend, Jana Nayagan is likely to finish close to the Rs. 200 crore gross mark at the Indian box office.
Although these collections may not match the highest box office records set by some of Vijay’s previous releases, the film’s performance becomes more notable when viewed in context. Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled for a January release but was delayed because of censor certification issues. During the delay, the film was leaked online, and many viewers reportedly watched the pirated version before its theatrical release.
The film also opened to mixed reactions from both critics and audiences after arriving in cinemas. Despite the leak and the average word of mouth, Jana Nayagan managed to attract large crowds during its opening week. Its ability to continue earning despite these challenges reflects Vijay’s strong fan following and star power at the box office.
The film’s financial situation, however, remains different from its box office performance. Reports suggest that Jana Nayagan was made on a very high budget, with a significant portion of the cost going towards the lead actor’s remuneration. As a result, recovering the overall investment could be challenging unless additional revenue from overseas markets and other rights helps improve the final outcome.
