The first teaser trailer for Coven Academy, an upcoming supernatural teen drama, has been released, giving viewers a first look at the mysterious world of the new series. The show is created by Tim Federle, known for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and is scheduled to debut in October.
The series was originally planned for Disney Channel but has now moved to Freeform. Set in New Orleans, Coven Academy follows a group of teenagers who attend an elite boarding school where students learn about magic and supernatural powers.
The story focuses on three teenage witches and a group of warlocks. At the school, power plays an important role, while secrets can have serious consequences. The students must also deal with attraction and relationships as they become caught between old supernatural conflicts and dangerous new threats.
The main character is Briar, played by Malina Pauli Weissman. She is an independent teenager from New York who discovers that she is a witch. Malachi Barton plays Jake, a charismatic warlock who has a more dangerous side.
Jordan Leftwich plays Sasha, a student with strong empathy who can read other people’s minds. Ora Duplass stars as Tegan, a witch who has the unusual ability to bend time. Louis Thresher plays Ollie, a teenager who has recently become a vampire.
Tiffani Thiessen plays Miss Graves, the powerful and stylish head of the school. Her character appears to hold an important position within the magical community and will likely play a major role in the students’ lives.
Devon Sawa is also joining the series as a special guest star. He plays Mr Cole, a talented and charming warlock who works as a professor at the school.
The recurring cast includes Swayam Bhatia as McKenna, Brendon Tremblay as Alexander, Keegan Connor Tracy as Tamora, BJ Harrison as Agnes and Nathaniel Logan McIntyre as Teese.
The series combines supernatural elements with teenage relationships, school life and mystery. The characters will have to deal with ancient magical conflicts while also trying to protect themselves and the city of New Orleans.
Coven Academy is scheduled to premiere on Freeform in October. The teaser gives an early look at a story centered on magic, friendship, secrets, romance and supernatural danger.
