Ananya Panday’s Chand Mera Dil Struggles at Box Office as Dance Scene Faces Heavy Trolls

Ananya Panday and Lakshya’s Chand Mera Dil saw a major drop at the box office on Monday while Ananya’s dance scene sparked mixed reactions online.

Chand Mera Dil starring Lakshya and Ananya Panday released in theatres on Friday but has had a slow start at the box office. The romantic drama received mixed reactions from both critics and audiences, and the film has struggled to show strong growth over its opening weekend. On Monday, the movie witnessed a major drop in collections, raising doubts about its long term performance in theatres.

According to the latest reports from Sacnilk, the film earned around ₹2.25 crore on its first Monday, which was its fourth day in theatres. This is a noticeable fall compared to Sunday’s collection of ₹4.25 crore, which remains the film’s highest single day earnings so far. On its opening day, the movie collected ₹3 crore. With this, the film’s total India gross collection has reached ₹15.76 crore, while the India net collection currently stands at ₹13.25 crore.

Backed by Dharma Productions and directed by Vivek Soni, the film tells the story of a young couple who meet during their college days in Hyderabad and fall in love. Their relationship takes a serious turn when they face an unplanned pregnancy. The female lead decides to keep the baby, and the couple eventually gets married. However, after marriage, they begin struggling with emotional pressure, frustration, and constant arguments. One heated fight turns violent, becoming the main conflict of the story.

Apart from the film’s box office performance, social media has also been buzzing about one particular scene featuring Ananya Panday performing a Bharatanatyam fusion dance. Clips from the sequence quickly went viral online, but many viewers reacted negatively. Well known dancer and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner Anita R Ratnam strongly criticised the performance on X. She said watching the dance felt like Bharatanatyam was being misunderstood and poorly presented onscreen.

However, not everyone agreed with the criticism. Ananya R Kurup, who worked as the assistant choreographer for the dance sequence, defended Ananya’s performance. Sharing a behind the scenes video, she praised the actress for her hard work and said Ananya performed the dance beautifully in the film. Ananya also reacted warmly to the post by replying with heart emojis, showing appreciation for the support amid the online debate.
