Obsession Crosses Rs. 22 Crore In Just One Week And Keeps Growing

Hollywood horror thriller Obsession earned Rs. 22.05 crore in its first week in India, emerging as one of the year's biggest surprise hits.

Hollywood horror thriller Obsession continues to perform strongly at the Indian box office, maintaining steady collections throughout its first week. Starring Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette, the film collected an estimated Rs. 3.30 crore on Day 7, recording a modest 10 per cent drop compared to Wednesday’s earnings.

With this, the movie has completed its first week with a total collection of Rs. 22.05 crore gross in India, including paid preview screenings. The film opened with Rs. 1.60 crore on its first official day and has shown consistent growth since then, supported by positive audience interest and strong word of mouth.

Directed by Curry Barker, Obsession has significantly exceeded expectations. In box office terms, a movie is often considered successful if its lifetime collection reaches around 10 times its opening day earnings. In this case, the film has already achieved nearly 15 times its opening day collection within its first week itself, highlighting its impressive performance.

The film’s daily collections show a steady upward trend after release. It earned Rs. 0.55 crore from previews, followed by Rs. 1.60 crore on Friday. Collections increased to Rs. 3.25 crore on Saturday and Rs. 3.75 crore on Sunday. During the weekdays, the movie remained stable with Rs. 2.50 crore on Monday, Rs. 3.50 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 3.60 crore on Wednesday and an estimated Rs. 3.30 crore on Thursday.

Based on current trends, Obsession appears well positioned to enter the Rs. 50 crore gross club in India. Its long term performance will largely depend on how well it holds during the second week, especially with new films arriving in cinemas.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the film’s success is its production budget. Made for approximately USD 750K, the independent horror film is expected to recover its budget from the theatrical share generated in India alone. This makes its box office performance particularly noteworthy.

The success of Obsession also reflects the growing popularity of Hollywood films in India. Interestingly, the film does not belong to a major franchise, unlike many successful horror releases that are linked to established brands such as The Conjuring universe. Its strong run demonstrates that audiences are willing to support standalone horror films when the content connects with viewers.
