Drishyam 3 has recorded a strong opening at the Kerala box office and continues to perform well despite receiving mixed reactions from some sections of the audience. The Malayalam family crime thriller, directed by Jeethu Joseph and starring Mohanlal, collected Rs. 62.70 crore gross in its extended opening week of 8 days in Kerala.
The movie earned around Rs. 5.70 crore on its eighth day, which was Thursday, showing that audience interest in the film remains steady even after the first week. The strong performance of the film highlights the popularity of the Drishyam franchise and Mohanlal’s loyal fan following among Malayalam cinema audiences.
With this collection, Drishyam 3 has now recorded the second biggest opening week for a Malayalam film in Kerala. The film is currently behind only L2 Empuraan, which collected Rs. 70.50 crore during its first week in the state.
Trade reports suggest that Drishyam 3 could continue its successful run over the second weekend as there are no major new releases expected to affect its business. Although another film titled Kattalan has released, it is not expected to create major competition for Drishyam 3 at the box office.
The film is also reportedly benefiting from slightly better word of mouth compared to Empuraan. Based on current trends, the movie is expected to finish its second weekend with around Rs. 75 crore to Rs. 80 crore gross in Kerala. If the steady performance continues, the film may soon move closer to the Rs. 100 crore mark in the state.
