Suriya starrer Karuppu has crossed a major box office milestone by collecting approximately Rs. 210.25 crore at the Indian box office after 17 days of release. The film earned around Rs. 16.75 crore during its third weekend, helping it comfortably move past the Rs. 200 crore mark.
With this achievement, Karuppu has become Suriya’s first film to enter the Rs. 200 crore club in India. Interestingly, the actor did not have a Rs. 100 crore domestic grosser before this release, making Karuppu his first film to cross both the Rs. 100 crore and Rs. 200 crore milestones. The film is also the fourteenth Tamil film to achieve the Rs. 200 crore mark at the domestic box office.
The film’s third weekend performance saw a decline of around 60 per cent compared to previous levels. While the drop is considered relatively steep, the collections have remained stable since the second Tuesday of its run. Based on its current trend, Karuppu is expected to add another Rs. 20 crore to Rs. 25 crore before completing its theatrical run, with a projected lifetime collection of around Rs. 230 crore to Rs. 235 crore in India.
The film collected Rs. 129.75 crore in its first week and added another Rs. 63.75 crore in its second week. During its third weekend, it earned Rs. 4.00 crore on Friday, Rs. 6.00 crore on Saturday and Rs. 6.75 crore on Sunday. This took its total Indian gross collection to Rs. 210.25 crore.
Tamil Nadu remains the film’s strongest market. The movie has collected approximately Rs. 140.50 crore in the state and is expected to cross Rs. 150 crore soon. It has already entered the list of the highest grossing films in Tamil Nadu and currently stands in thirteenth position. If the current trend continues, it could move into the top ten by the end of the week and potentially challenge films ranked above it.
Outside Tamil Nadu, the film has also performed well in other southern markets. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have contributed around Rs. 32.50 crore, while Karnataka has generated approximately Rs. 21.25 crore. Kerala has added around Rs. 13.50 crore, and the rest of India has contributed Rs. 2.50 crore.
