Ameesha Patel, best known for her portrayal of Sakina in the Gadar franchise, has sparked an online debate with her candid refusal to take on roles as a mother-in-law, regardless of the financial offer. This stance comes in response to comments made by Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma, who suggested she embrace evolving roles, citing the legendary Nargis Dutt**’s performance as a mother in Mother India as an example of actors accepting challenging roles.

Patel strongly disagreed with Sharma’s perspective, stating that fans cherish the Gadar franchise for its portrayal of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and Sakina as larger-than-life, heroic figures. She remarked, “Fans don’t want to see Tara Sakina as father-in-law and mother-in-law; they love their Tara being a hero and a superhero only.”

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Patel firmly reiterated her stance, tweeting: “Dear @Anilsharma_dir dear Anilji. This is only a film and not a reality of some family, so on screen, I do have a say as to what I want to do and not do respect u loads, but I will never play a mother-in-law for Gadar or any film, even if paid 100 crores.”

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Sharma revealed that Patel had reservations about playing an older character in Gadar 2. He referenced how younger actors like Nargis Dutt embraced transformative roles in films like Mother India, suggesting that such decisions enrich an actor’s career and legacy.

Patel’s comments have divided opinion, with some fans applauding her boldness and decision to stay true to her vision of the character, while others see Sharma’s perspective as a call to embrace artistic growth.

Despite the differing views, Patel conveyed her respect for Sharma, wishing him well for his latest release, Vanvaas, which stars Nana Patekar, Simrat Kaur, and Utkarsh Sharma.
