Just as Mukesh’s voice was synonymous with Raj Kapoor likewise Mohammad Rafi’s voice was recognized as Dilip Kumar but readers would be surprised to know that prior to Rafi, Dilip Kumar had a fixation for Mukesh and Talat Mehmood’s voice.

In an interview Dilip Kumar confessed the reason behind opting for Talat Mehmood’s voice. He said, ”After the super hit song ‘Ae dil mujhe aisi jagha le chal jahan koi na ho’ composed by music director Anil Biswas the audience began identifying Talat Mehmood as my voice. His soft velvet voice gelled with the emotional romantic roles I played in the 40s and our combination was electrifying.”
However, in the movie ANOKHA PYAR when Anil Biswas introduced Mukesh’s voice for Dilip Kumar Dilip Kumar was overwhelmed by his voice. The mellowness, sweetness and pathos in his voice enchanted Dilip Kumar to such an extent that when Mehboob Khan began shooting for ANDAAZ, India’s First multi-starrer movie starring Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Nargis, Dilip Kumar insisted Naushad, the movie’s music director to use Mukesh for his voice and the result was terrific.
Remember ‘Hum aaj kahin dil kho baithe…’, ‘Tu kahe agar jeevan bhar…, ‘Toote na dil toote na…, ‘ Jhoom jhoom ke nacho aaj…’. All the songs were super-duper hit.
Readers would be further stunned to know that in ANDAAZ, while all songs picturised on Dilip Kumar was sung by Mukesh, the only song ‘Yun Toh aapas mein bigadte hai’ picturised on Raj Kapoor was surprisingly sung by Mohd. Rafi!!!
