Farah Khan recently shared an emotional tribute to her late mother, Menaka Irani, who passed away in Mumbai on July 26. In her heartfelt Instagram post on August 5, Farah reflected on her mother’s wit, strength, and generosity. Accompanied by a series of nostalgic photos, including a childhood birthday picture, a stunning black-and-white portrait of Menaka, and memories from Farah’s 2004 wedding, the post offered a glimpse into Menaka’s life and character.
Farah described her mother as a unique person who shunned the limelight and remained resilient despite facing many challenges early in life. Menaka’s lack of bitterness and her kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Farah credited her mother for her and her brother Sajid Khan’s sense of humor, admitting that Menaka was far funnier and wittier than both of them combined.
Following Menaka’s death, numerous celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Abhishek Bachchan, visited Farah’s home to pay their respects. Farah expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and condolences from friends, family, and even people her mother had helped over the years.
In her message, Farah also thanked the doctors and nurses at Nanavati Hospital for their efforts in caring for her mother, which gave the family additional time with her. Farah’s post concluded with a resolve to celebrate her mother’s life daily, cherishing the memories and influence Menaka had on her and Sajid.
Menaka Irani was not only a devoted mother but also a sister to actor Daisy Irani and screenwriter Honey Irani. She was the aunt of filmmakers Zoya and Farhan Akhtar. After the death of Farah and Sajid’s father, Menaka singlehandedly raised her children, leaving a legacy of strength and compassion.
