At the IIFA Awards announcement in Mumbai on Tuesday, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan once again stole the spotlight, rekindling their famed camaraderie with their signature humor and charm. As they prepare to host IIFA 2024 at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, their on-stage banter and warm friendship were front and center during the press conference.
Karan Johar took to Instagram the following day to share two heartwarming photos with Shah Rukh Khan, accompanied by a touching caption that highlighted their deep bond. “Big Brother, Guide, inspiration and family forever… not to forget a bonafide force of nature! Love you bhai! ❤️❤️❤️❤️” Karan’s tribute was a testament to the brother-like relationship they’ve maintained over the years.
Their friendship, which blossomed with Karan’s role as an assistant director on *Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge* (1995), was solidified with Shah Rukh’s lead role in Karan’s directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Their collaboration continued with hits like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), and My Name is Khan (2010), each film further cementing their legendary partnership.
During the press conference, Shah Rukh Khan humorously revealed that Karan Johar planned to handle rehearsal remotely, saying, “Karan told me he won’t be rehearsing for hosting, he’ll do it on Zoom. He said, ‘Bhai main Zoom pe kar lunga… main itna jaldi karta hu. Main toh itna hosting karta hu na.’ Chat show bhi host karta hai, film show bhi host karta hai… picture bhi toh bana mere bhai tu,’” SRK quipped, making the audience and Karan burst into laughter. Shah Rukh continued to tease Karan with, “Kitna host karega tu,” highlighting their playful dynamic.
On the professional front, Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for his next film, King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. This project is particularly special as it will feature his daughter, Suhana Khan, in her first on-screen collaboration with her father, adding a new and exciting dimension to Shah Rukh’s illustrious career.
