Recently, Twinkle Khanna spoke about the heart-warming insights she has into parenting, especially about her children, Aarav and Nitara, with her husband Akshay Kumar. She described how societal comparisons, especially relating to skin tone, seem to arise between her children, and how she is adamant that they embrace their own unique identities. Twinkle spoke about her approach to her second child, Nitara, for whom comparisons regarding her complexion had been made, and made a conscious effort to instil confidence in her.
Twinkle admits that with her first child Aarav, she perhaps was a little more experimental-the process of learning as going along-but with Nitara, she felt a more mindful approach. She remembered when she said to her daughter that she had “golden” skin, which empowered her daughter to appreciate her own beauty.
Twinkle even shared a wonderful moment when Nitara proudly declared during a family beach outing that the color of her skin is something special. While Aarav applied sunblock, Nitara confidently said, “I don’t really need so much sunblock because my skin is greater than yours,” humorously adding, “A white T-shirt gets dirty but a brown T-shirt doesn’t. You can’t see it so I am greater.” Twinkle saw this as a moment of triumph, marking her daughter’s growing confidence in her own skin.
Twinkle and Akshay Kumar have been married for more than two decades and have a son, Aarav born in 2002, and a daughter, Nitara born in 2012. The strong commitment to raising their children with a deep sense of self-love and pride for their identity is reflected in Twinkle’s musings on motherhood.
