2026 Emmy predictions: The Pitt, Hacks and Beef emerge as the frontrunners

Variety’s final 2026 Emmy predictions have The Pitt, Hacks, Beef and Pluribus leading the race ahead of this year’s Primetime Emmy nominations.

the race ahead of this year’s Primetime Emmy nominations.

The Emmy race feels unusually open this year. There are obvious frontrunners, but there isn’t one show that’s expected to sweep every major category. That makes predicting the winners a lot more fun and a lot more difficult. If we had to place our bets today, these are the shows and performances we think have the strongest chance of walking away with television’s biggest honors.

The biggest battle is in Outstanding Drama Series, where The Pitt feels like the show to beat. The medical drama has earned widespread praise for its writing, performances and emotional storytelling. While Severance remains a serious contender and Andor has delivered one of the strongest final seasons in recent memory, The Pitt has the kind of momentum Emmy voters usually reward.

In comedy, Hacks still has the edge. The series has consistently been an Emmy favorite, and Jean Smart continues to deliver one of television’s best performances. That said, The Studio could emerge as this year’s surprise winner. Seth Rogen’s Hollywood satire has quickly become one of the year’s most talked-about comedies and could split votes in several categories.

The Limited Series race might end up being the toughest category of all. Adolescence has generated enormous critical acclaim and emotional reactions from audiences, making it our current favorite. Netflix’s Monsters: The Ed Gein Story is another strong contender, while Dying for Sex has also earned praise for balancing humor with heartbreak.

The acting categories look equally competitive. Noah Wyle seems poised for a comeback thanks to The Pitt, while Pedro Pascal and Adam Scott shouldn’t be counted out. On the comedy side, Jean Smart remains the actress everyone has to beat, though Kathryn Hahn and Uzo Aduba could easily pull off an upset.

Among supporting performers, expect plenty of recognition for the casts of The Pitt, Severance, Hacks, and The Studio. Ensemble-heavy shows often perform well with Emmy voters, and this year should be no exception.

Streaming platforms are also in for an interesting night. HBO Max appears to have one of its strongest lineups in years, Apple TV+ continues to build an impressive awards résumé, and Netflix once again has several major contenders across drama, comedy and limited series.

Of course, Emmy predictions have a habit of aging badly. Every year delivers at least a few shocking upsets that nobody sees coming. But if current momentum is anything to go by, expect The Pitt, Hacks, The Studio, and Adolescence to dominate the conversation when the winners are finally announced.

Television has rarely been this competitive, and that’s exactly what makes this year’s Emmy race one worth watching.
