The first rule of Fight Club may be not to talk about it, but fans couldn’t help celebrating when Brad Pitt and Edward Norton reunited at the FIFA World Cup. The former co-stars were spotted together on Thursday while attending the USA vs. Türkiye match at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, marking a rare public reunion nearly 27 years after starring in David Fincher’s iconic 1999 psychological thriller. Photos from the event showed Pitt and Norton chatting as they watched the action from the stands. Pitt, 62, sported a Team USA soccer jersey with a white bucket hat and sunglasses, while Norton, 56, kept things casual in a Radiohead T-shirt.
The pair famously starred opposite one another in Fight Club, with Norton playing the unnamed Narrator and Pitt portraying the charismatic and unpredictable Tyler Durden. Based on Chuck Palahniuk’s 1996 novel, the film has since become one of Hollywood’s most influential cult classics despite receiving mixed reactions upon its original release.
The movie also featured Helena Bonham Carter, Jared Leto, Holt McCallany and Meat Loaf in memorable supporting roles.
Although Pitt and Norton haven’t shared the screen since Fight Club, Pitt later reunited with another member of the film’s creative team. He starred in 2022’s Bullet Train, directed by former Fight Club stunt performer David Leitch.
Leitch previously spoke about convincing Pitt to join the action-comedy, admitting he was initially unsure whether the Oscar winner would be interested.
“It’s really humbling for me as a director to have him validate a piece of material and say, ‘I want to make this, and make it with you,'” Leitch previously told Entertainment Weekly. “We go back, like, 20 years now, so that full-circle moment was pretty special.”
While the Hollywood reunion thrilled movie fans, the match itself ended in disappointment for the home crowd as Türkiye defeated the United States 3-2.
Despite the loss, the U.S. Men’s National Team still advanced to the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup and will next face Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1.
For many fans, however, seeing Tyler Durden and the Narrator together again may have stolen the spotlight from the football itself.
