Paul Heyman is insisting that Brock Lesnar’s WWE retirement genuinely surprised him. In a new interview, the longtime WWE manager addressed Lesnar’s shocking retirement following WrestleMania, saying he had absolutely no clue “The Beast Incarnate” was planning to walk away from wrestling. Lesnar officially retired after losing to Oba Femi at WrestleMania in Las Vegas, ending one of the most dominant runs in WWE history. The moment became even more emotional when Lesnar removed his gloves and boots inside the ring while embracing Heyman.
Now, Heyman says his reaction that night was completely real.
“If I knew he was gonna retire, would I have gone on record saying he was gonna dominate for the next 15 years?” Heyman said while discussing the moment.
The WWE Hall of Famer explained that he was genuinely emotional during Lesnar’s farewell and pushed back at suggestions that the retirement was planned far in advance behind the scenes.
“I was crying,” he added. “Am I that good of an actor that I can cry on cue? Not I.”
Just weeks before WrestleMania, Heyman had publicly denied rumors about Lesnar stepping away from WWE and even claimed the former champion still had years left in his career.
That is why many fans were stunned when Lesnar officially retired after the match.
While reflecting on the end of Lesnar’s career, Heyman also shifted focus toward what he believes is WWE’s next generation of stars.
According to him, the future now belongs to talents like Bron Breakker, Logan Paul, Bronson Reed, and Austin Theory.
“The Vision taking over WWE,” Heyman declared while naming the rising stars he believes will define the company moving forward.
Lesnar’s retirement marks the end of an era for WWE fans.
Over the years, the former UFC heavyweight champion became one of wrestling’s biggest attractions, headlining multiple WrestleManias and dominating nearly every major championship scene during his career.
For Heyman, the retirement appears to still feel emotional and unexpected.
And judging from his reaction, even one of Brock Lesnar’s closest allies did not see the ending coming.
