Britney Spears recently shared her thoughts on Sabrina Carpenter’s performance at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), where Sabrina kissed an “alien” on stage during her space-themed act. Taking to Instagram, Britney expressed her confusion, calling the kiss “weird” and questioning why Sabrina didn’t kiss a girl instead, referencing the iconic 2003 VMAs moment when Britney herself shared a kiss with Madonna during a performance.
In the video, Britney admitted that she didn’t watch the VMAs live but saw clips online, and she found Sabrina’s performance curious, though she reiterated her admiration for the young artist. Britney also mentioned feeling “cool” after hearing that Sabrina mentioned her on the red carpet, appreciating the nod to her music.
The 2024 VMAs made several references to Britney’s legendary VMA moments. Megan Thee Stallion paid tribute to Britney’s famous 2001 performance of *I’m a Slave 4 U* by wearing an outfit reminiscent of Britney’s look, complete with a live albino Burmese python. Additionally, Tate McRae recreated one of Britney’s lacy looks from past VMAs, and MTV highlighted some of Britney’s iconic performances during the event’s flashbacks to the VMAs’ history.
