Mohanlal’s much-awaited fantasy film, Barroz, the superstar’s directorial debut, has reportedly not had a grand box office opening just as big-ticket ventures are expected to. Had it been a box office keeper and got the second-highest revenue opener for Mohanlal, it could have raked in about ₹5.55 crore on its first day real worldwide market run.
India Net: ₹3.40 crores
India Gross: ₹4.01 crores
Overseas Gross: ₹1.54 crores
Worldwide Gross: ₹5.55 crores

In Kerala, the film grossed ₹3.51 crores on its opening day, while the rest of India contributed a poor ₹0.50 crore gross. The overseas market was also not a very encouraging domain; Barroz managed to garner only ₹1.54 crore from outside India.
With a whopping ₹80 crore budget, Barroz couldn’t build any sort of hype even before it got underway. Mixed response from critics, along with a lukewarm-end-of-the-line for booking advanced tickets, broke out in its wake. The ambitions of this movie and Mohanlal’s efforts as a director were laudable, but the storytelling and execution just did not cut it and divided audiences down the middle.
After a lackluster opening and a huge budget, Barroz is in a rather precarious position at the box office. With mixed word of mouth and a tepid audience reaction, the film also runs a huge risk of being a box office flop. In order to recoup production costs, the film needs a big turnaround in the coming days.
