The Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Vettaiyan continues its remarkable run at the worldwide box office, crossing the ₹300 crore mark within just 8 days of its release. The action thriller, directed by Jai Bhim fame TJ Gnanavel, showcases Rajinikanth’s star power, with strong performances by Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, and Dushara Vijayan.

Vettaiyan opened with a massive ₹77.90 crore on its first day, followed by impressive collections on subsequent days: ₹45.26 crore on day 2, ₹47.87 crore on day 3, and ₹41.32 crore on day 4. Despite a gradual decline in collections over the weekdays, the film maintained its global momentum, earning ₹27.80 crore on day 5, ₹24.16 crore on day 6, ₹20.58 crore on day 7, and ₹17.23 crore on day 8. By the second Thursday, Vettaiyan had grossed ₹302.12 crore globally, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Varisu (₹297.55 crore), another recent hit from Tamil cinema.

Film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan took to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the significance of Vettaiyan’s success, stating: “New day new record by Superstar Rajinikanth as Vettaiyan zooms past ₹300 cr milestone mark. Content-oriented film winning at the box office is a positive sign. Audiences telling the world to make more such movies.”

However, Vettaiyan’s domestic box office performance tells a different story. The film’s India collections saw a significant drop on its second Thursday, earning only ₹3.15 crore. Despite a strong opening weekend (₹31.7 crore on day 1, ₹24 crore on day 2, and ₹26.75 crore on day 3), the film’s earnings dwindled through the weekdays, reaching a cumulative total of ₹122.10 crore in India. On Thursday, the film’s theatrical occupancy varied across languages—16.79% for Tamil shows, 14.40% for Telugu shows, and 7.19% for Hindi shows, according to Sacnilk.

The film’s plot centers on an encounter specialist who is pushed to his limits while investigating an educational scam. Released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam on October 10, Vettaiyan continues to draw global attention despite a decline in its domestic performance.
