Vijay Varma Plans To Turn Director With Unique Horror Idea

Vijay Varma plans to step into direction with a psychological horror film set in Rajasthan while continuing his acting projects this year.

Vijay Varma is currently having a strong phase in his acting career and is now looking to explore a new role behind the camera. After the response to IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack and ahead of his upcoming project Matka King, the actor has shared his interest in becoming a director. In a recent interaction with Variety India, Vijay Varma spoke about the kind of film he would like to make. He expressed interest in directing a horror film set in Rajasthan, with a focus on traditional beliefs and psychological elements.

He said, “I would love to do a horror set in Rajasthan. Very ‘jaadu-tona’ kind of a horror. Very psychological, [but] at the same time, straight-up horror, not like laced up with comedy. A horror drama.”

His idea suggests a different approach compared to the current trend in Hindi cinema, where horror films are often mixed with comedy. Instead, he is interested in telling a story that focuses on fear, mood, and tension without adding humor. The concept leans more towards a serious and intense narrative rooted in local culture and folklore.

Vijay Varma has some experience in the horror genre as an actor. He appeared in the anthology film Ghost Stories, where he was part of a segment directed by Zoya Akhtar. His interest in directing shows that he wants to explore the genre in more depth.

Along with this, he also mentioned that he would like to do more comedy as an actor. He feels that comedy is an area he has not explored much so far and wants to expand his range in that direction.

Looking ahead, Vijay Varma has a busy schedule. His upcoming project Matka King is set to release on April 17, where he plays Brij Bhatti, a cotton trader who becomes a key figure in the gambling world of 1960s Bombay. The project also features Sai Tamhankar, Kritika Kamra, Siddharth Jadhav, Jamie Lever, and Gulshan Grover.

He is also part of an upcoming Netflix series titled Family Business, which includes actors like Anil Kapoor, Akash Khurana, Rhea Chakraborty, and Neha Dhupia.
