Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s latest romantic drama, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, may have opened to favourable reviews and decent initial buzz, but the film’s box office journey tells a different story. Directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions banner, the film also features Rohit Saraf and Sanya Malhotra in key roles. It hit theatres on October 2, aligning with a major festive week, which initially seemed promising for its commercial prospects.

The film had a respectable opening day, earning around ₹9.25 crore, and wrapped up its first weekend with a total of approximately ₹30 crore. However, the momentum began to fade rapidly during the weekdays. According to data from sacnilk.com, the film collected just ₹2 crore on Thursday, marking its lowest single-day earnings since release. As of now, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has amassed around ₹40.75 crore in eight days.

Trade analysts attribute the film’s lukewarm performance to stiff competition from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, which has emerged as a nationwide blockbuster. The Kannada-language epic has already crossed the ₹100 crore mark, dominating screens and audiences across multiple states. Its mass appeal and strong word-of-mouth have left little breathing room for other releases, including this glossy romantic comedy.

Despite its charming leads, vibrant music, and high production values typical of a Dharma outing, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari appears to be losing its grip on the box office. Industry experts now estimate the film’s lifetime earnings could wrap up between ₹50–60 crore — a figure considered underwhelming for a project of this scale and backing.

The film follows Sunny (Varun Dhawan) and Tulsi (Janhvi Kapoor), two individuals nursing broken hearts after being dumped by their partners Ananya (Sanya Malhotra) and Vikram (Rohit Saraf). When they cross paths, they decide to fake a relationship to incite jealousy in their exes, only to find themselves caught in a whirlwind of unexpected emotions.

Randhawa took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his sorrow in an emotional note written in Punjabi. “Hearing the news of the sudden demise of Punjab’s famous bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman ji has left my heart very saddened. With his hard work, discipline, and ability, he illuminated Punjab’s name across the world. May Waheguru ji grant his soul eternal peace and give strength to the family to bear this sorrowful blow,” he wrote.

Former Indian Hockey Team captain Parjat Singh also mourned the loss, remembering Ghuman as a disciplined and devoted vegetarian who achieved greatness through dedication. “He built his body with grace and inspired many. May Waheguru bless his soul,” he shared.

According to The Tribune, Ghuman died during treatment at Fortis Hospital in Amritsar. A senior doctor confirmed he passed away around 5:30 PM on October 10.

Varinder Singh Ghuman was a pioneer in Indian bodybuilding, gaining nationwide fame after winning the Mr. India title in 2009 and securing second place at Mr. Asia. Known for promoting a vegetarian lifestyle in a field dominated by meat-based diets, Ghuman broke stereotypes and inspired a generation of fitness enthusiasts.

What begins with the death of a teenage girl gradually expands into a reflection on guilt, power, and the quiet fractures between generations. Sippy constructs a world where silence carries intention and truth seldom arrives whole. He approaches the crime narrative with discipline, steering clear of excess or spectacle. His interest lies not in shock but in consequence — in what remains after the act. The pacing is deliberate, the tone measured. The investigation unfolds with the logic of lived experience rather than television formula. Conversations linger; glances say what words cannot; tension emerges from restraint. The series earns its gravity — it doesn’t imitate it.

At the centre of Search is ACP Sanyukta Das (Konkona Sen Sharma), a seasoned investigator standing at the intersection of duty and personal disquiet. On the verge of leaving her department to mend her crumbling marriage, she is pulled into one last case — the brutal murder of a young girl named Naina (Chandsi Kataria).

What seems routine quickly becomes a labyrinth of contradictions. Working alongside the idealistic ACP Jai Kanwal (Surya Sharma), Sanyukta is drawn into an investigation where facts shift and motives blur. As layers peel away, the case reveals a network of social media manipulation, political interference, and psychological strain — a reflection of a society caught between exposure and denial.

Konkona Sen Sharma lends Sanyukta quiet authority and fragility in equal measure — a woman balancing professional precision with emotional exhaustion. Surya Sharma’s Jai Kanwal, driven yet unseasoned, stands as her moral counterpoint: a man whose sense of right is tested by the compromises that truth demands. Running parallel to the investigation is a political thread that deepens the show’s moral fog. Tushar Surve (Shiv Pandit) a rising politician whose confidence conceals unease. His friend and campaign manager Sahil (Dhruv Sehgal), becomes the reluctant conscience of a world built on spin. Completing the triad is Raksha (Shraddha Das) — an ambitious strategist whose proximity to power blurs the line between loyalty and desire.

Their subplot operates as a mirror to the main narrative. Politics here is performance — calculated, curated, and often indistinguishable from deceit. As the murder’s shockwave spreads, these characters confront their own versions of guilt and exposure, proving that truth is never just uncovered; it is negotiated.

Beneath the procedural and political surfaces runs the series’ most poignant theme — the generational divide between parents and their Gen Z children. Sippy approaches it with empathy rather than critique. Parents, cautious and world-weary, warn of the digital world’s dangers; their children, fluent in it, interpret those warnings as distance.

Through Naina’s story, this divide becomes intimate. The internet here is both stage and shield — a space where identity is performed and vulnerability disguised. The series captures the ache of being seen yet misunderstood, the longing for connection in an age of constant visibility.

The six-episode arc concludes with deliberate ambiguity. Just as the pieces begin to align, Sippy leaves a sliver of uncertainty — a fleeting glance, a stray phrase — enough to suggest, never to confirm. The viewer is left at the edge of revelation, waiting for the second part to unearth what remains buried.

Search: The Naina Murder Case stands out because it respects its audience and its genre. It refuses haste, avoids ornament, and insists that suspense can live in silence as much as in revelation.
