Days after the teaser of Ramayana Part I starring Ranbir Kapoor was released, AI generated images of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput imagining him as Lord Ram began circulating on social media. These images quickly gained attention and sparked emotional reactions among fans.

The sequel brings back the main team behind the first film. It is directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna. Along with the returning cast, several new actors have joined the film, including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. The film is produced and distributed by 20th Century Studios. It is scheduled to release in cinemas on 1st May 2026.

Janhvi Kapoor recently spoke about the challenges her mother, Sridevi, faced during her lifetime. She shared that Sridevi was often judged harshly and was even called a “homewrecker,” which affected her emotionally.

Nitesh Tiwari has shared new details about his upcoming film Ramayana. He explained that the character of Ravana will not be shown as just a villain. Instead, the film will present a more complete picture of Ravana’s personality, including both his strengths and weaknesses.

The role of Ravana will be played by Yash. According to the director, the character will highlight how Ravana was not only powerful but also talented and knowledgeable. He spoke about this during the teaser launch event in Los Angeles, where he said, “See, Ravana had so many aspects to his life. He was a great warrior, he was an accomplished musician, a scholar, a benevolent king… a great Shiva devotee. There was so much to him than just being a black character.”

He further explained the idea behind this approach. “… It’s very important for us to showcase all these bits and aspects of Ravana because there’s a very important lesson which is hiding in them. You can have all these great qualities, but if you are governed by vengeance and if you are driven by ego, then you know what the end result is going to be. There’s a great lesson out there.” This shows that the film aims to present Ravana as a complex character rather than a one dimensional figure.

At the same event, Ranbir Kapoor also spoke about Yash’s role. He said, “Yash, of course, he has the stardom that he has. To play Ravana, you need somebody who has that aura and screen presence. His interpretation of Ravana is very different from what we have seen over the years. I think that’s something which the audiences will really enjoy watching on the big screen.”

Interestingly, Yash is also working as a producer on the film. He had earlier spoken about this in April 2025, saying, “It has been my long term aspiration to make films that will showcase Indian cinema on a global level. In pursuit of that, I was in LA to ally with one of the best VFX studios, and to my amazement, the driving force behind it was a fellow Indian.”

He added, “Namit and I had various ideation sessions, and coincidentally, our synergy on the vision for Indian cinema aligned perfectly. We brainstormed various projects, and during these discussions, the subject of ‘Ramayana’ came up. Namit had a part of it in the works.”

The film features a large cast including Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The first part of Ramayana is planned for release during Diwali 2026, while the second part is scheduled for Diwali 2027.

Anu Malik is currently working with two well known figures from the film industry, Anupam Kher and Mahesh Bhatt, on their upcoming projects. He is collaborating with Anupam Kher on a play titled Jaane Pehchaane Anjane, and with Mahesh Bhatt on a film called Tu Meri Poori Kahani.

Talking about these collaborations, Anu Malik shared, “I hope I have justified the faith they have reposed in me!” His statement reflects his effort to meet the expectations of both filmmakers.

Anupam Kher, who has worked with Anu Malik earlier in films like Awaargi and Maarg, spoke about why he chose to work with him again. He said, “I just thought about who has the same passion, fire, and brilliance today as in 2002, and Anu was the only one who came to mind! He has made so many amazing songs over the decades, and I thought that the theatre audience would hear his songs for the first time and would love them! I have four songs that will come at different junctures, as they are all seven to eight minutes long. Shaan, Sukhwinder Singh, and Anandi Joshi are our singers.”

Kher also spoke about his preference for recording music in a traditional way. “Nowadays, I have heard that people send music to you digitally. But that does not make sense to me! I have attended so many recordings of Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji, and R D Burman that I prefer to hear songs live in a studio. And let me say, Anu has delivered!” he added.

Mahesh Bhatt also shared his thoughts on working with Anu Malik again. He said, “Anu Malik and I came together again for Sir and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee at a time when he had hit rock bottom, after a phase when I was mainly working with Nadeem Shravan. And I have seen this again and again, when a person begins to feel the breath of extinction, something primal awakens. The survival instinct in a creative person often brings out their very best. It is not for nothing that despair has been called the womb of creativity!”

He further explained how the idea for the project came about. “When Tu Meri Poori Kahani was being filmed, I sat down with Vikram Bhatt and his writing team. The director was a bright young girl named Suhrita Das from Bengal, my protegee, and we had a gifted lyric writer, Shweta Bothra. The idea, in fact, came from Vikram. He felt that since this was a love story, the combination of Anu Malik and me could create something special,” Bhatt added.

Overall, these collaborations bring together experienced artists who have worked together in the past and are now joining hands again for new creative projects.
