Actor Dhanush recently stirred controversy with his speech at the audio launch of his upcoming film “Raayan.” He referred to himself as an “outsider” and recounted how he worked hard to buy a house in the prestigious Poes Garden, known for housing Rajinikanth and the late Jayalalithaa. Dhanush described his journey from a 16-year-old dreaming of living in such a posh locality to finally purchasing a house there as a gift to his younger self.

However, his comments sparked debate online, with many reminding him of his film industry background. Critics pointed out that his father, director Kasthuri Raja, financed his first film and that Dhanush was married to Rajinikanth’s daughter early in his career. Some accused him of downplaying his privileged background, calling his narrative misleading and likening it to similar stories from his ex-father-in-law, Rajinikanth.

Supporters, however, defended Dhanush, finding inspiration in his story and urging others to focus on the positive message. They dismissed the criticism as unnecessary negativity.

“Raayan,” directed by Dhanush, features him alongside Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, SJ Suryah, Selvaraghavan, Prakash Raj, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. The film is set to release this Friday. Dhanush is also set to appear in Sekhar Kammula’s bilingual film “Kubera,” starring Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh.

Ahead of the release of his upcoming film “Raayan,” Dhanush recently visited his ancestral temple in Theni. Accompanied by his sons, Yatra and Linga, he shared a photo of himself meditating in front of the deities, along with a Tamil verse. The picture shows Dhanush in a light blue shirt, symbolizing his connection to his roots and seeking peace. He captioned the photo, “Staying connected to your roots is peace,” accompanied by a white heart emoji.

“Raayan,” marking Dhanush’s second directorial venture after “Pa Paandi,” is a gangster drama set for a grand release in Tamil and Telugu on July 26, amid much anticipation.
