Production of Kantara: Chapter 1, featuring and directed by Rishab Shetty, was tainted by a tragic event. Junior artist MF Kapil met his death after drowning in Karnataka’s Souparnika River near Kollur while on break from the shooting of the film.
Accident During Break Turns Fatal
Kapil, an actor from Kerala in his young age, went swimming in the river on Tuesday afternoon when he was swept by a strong current. Local authorities were alerted by eyewitnesses and immediately launched a search operation with the fire department. Unfortunately, his body was recovered in the evening. The police have registered a case with the Kollur station and are investigating how the drowning happened.

String of Setbacks for Kantara Team
The tragic accident contributes to a litany of disasters that have attended the shoot of the film. Just a fortnight ago, a junior artists’ bus rolled over in the same area—with no one left hurt. Prior to that, heavy weather blew up an extravagant set, and the crew incurred flak from forest officials on suspicion of disturbing the environment with the shoot.
